Fire Hazard Status Update/Campfire Prohibition this Thursday. Please read. Fwd: Coastal Fire Centre S.10 Category 1 Campfire Open Fire Prohibition and S.12 Restricted Activities

Please be advised that the Coastal Fire Centre will be prohibiting Category 1 campfire open fire effective 12:00 noon Thursday June 8th, 2023.    In addition to this prohibition, the Coastal Fire Centre will maintain the Category 2 and Category 3 open fire prohibitions and the list of restricted activities and equipment will expand to include:

 

  • Fireworks
  • Sky lanterns
  • Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
  • Binary exploding targets
  • Air curtain burners
  • Chimineas
  • Tiki and similar kinds of torches

 

If you get any questions, outdoor stoves are now defined in the Wildfire Regulation and will not be included in the restricted activities. 

 

Outdoor Stove definition:

An outdoor stove is a CSA-rated or ULC-rated device used outdoors for cooking, heat or ambiance that burns charcoal briquettes, liquid fuel or gaseous fuel, and has a flame height that is less than 15 cm tall

 

These prohibitions will include all Coastal Fire Centre zones following Forest District boundaries (Resourced Districts) the with the exception of the Haida Gwaii Forest District.

 

An external information bulletin will be shared out to media and the public in the coming days.

 

As an FYI: Cariboo Fire Centre and Kamloops Fire Centre will also be prohibiting Campfires for their entire Centre on Thursday June 8th.
